Mindset Tip Hire help

In Seek out answers, we discussed our need to go it alone instead of asking for answers. When it comes to hiring help, we often feel the same. We might be afraid we can’t afford to employ someone, will hire the wrong person, or we may have difficulty turning tasks over to others. However, hiring someone is one of the most beneficial things we can do for our business because it frees up our time to focus on the tasks only we can complete. Regardless of our concerns, we must be honest about our needs and open to allowing someone to assist us.

There are no rules about how long we need to employ someone, how many hours a week we need to employ them, or which duties we need pass off. There are several options when hiring. We can employ someone short-term for a specific project or long-term to handle an ongoing duty or task. When hiring short-term, we need to ask ourselves if getting assistance would free up our time to work on more important things, allow us to produce a higher quality product, complete the project sooner, of fill in knowledge we’re missing. When hiring long-term, we need to ask ourselves how much time the job requires, if employing someone will free up our time for more critical duties, or if they fill a gap in our knowledge, benefiting our business.

The important thing to remember is we get to decide all of these things, including:

  • When we hire someone,
  • What we hire them to do.
  • How long we hire them for.
  • The number of hours per week they work.
  • The amount they make.
  • Who we decide to employ.

Employing someone isn’t a lifetime agreement. We can hire someone temporarily to see if they work out. As long as we are honest with ourselves about our concerns and open with them about our intentions and expectations, employing someone can add value to our business and increase our profits.

Action steps:

  1. Review all your tasks and projects, both personal and business, and determine which ones you could consider hiring someone else to do.
  2. Determine if short-term or long-term assistance is needed and what those timeframes might be.
  3. Determine an approximate number of hours per week needed to complete the task or project.
  4. Research hiring someone for one or more of the tasks or projects identified.
  5. Add a someone to your team so you have more time for the tasks and projects only you can do.
