Technology is ever-changing, so for most of us, it is impossible to stay on top of it all. When working in digital real estate, technical challenges will happen. They slow our progress, deflate our motivation, or downright frustrate us. Our mindset and approach to the issue are critical when these things happen. That is why we must keep pushing forward and remind ourselves we don’t have to do it alone. Many people are able and willing to help; all we need to do is find them and ask.
When looking for help, we need to consider a few things:
- How impacting is the issue to our work or business?
- How quickly do we need it resolved?
- Do we have the resources to pay someone to fix the issue?
- Are we willing to pay someone to fix the issue?
When the problem significantly impacts our work or business, and we have the resources to pay someone to fix it, hiring someone might be in our best interest. The same is true when we need the problem resolved quickly. In these situations, we must research possible vendors, request referrals from colleagues, and find the best option for budget.
When the problem is low impacting, we don’t have the resources to pay someone to fix our problem, or we’re unwilling to pay someone, then we need to get creative. For example, we can research the issue online, in groups, and follow experts in the field, digging for the answers ourselves. We can turn to a friend or colleague with the expertise and ask for their help or exchange services. We can look for a college student willing to assist us for free or college credit.
Regardless of how we resolve the issue, we must find a way to fix it. We’ll all be frustrated with technology at some point. Keep that in mind, take a deep breath, and seek out a solution.
