When most people think about wealth, they think about money. We all know money is a big part of wealth, but true wealth includes all aspects of our life, which is why some people are rich but don’t feel happy. As a culture, we too often focus on the money aspect of wealth, and we must remember to consider what other things we need to feel wealthy. Some of these things are:
- Relationships/Love
- Fulfillment/Purpose
- Health (physical and mental)
- Spirituality/Faith
Money alone doesn’t bring true wealth. As humans, we need other things. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. And the things we need to feel wealthy will vary from person to person too. That is why it is important to think about what we, as individuals, need to feel wealthy.
One person may feel wealthy having a happy marriage, happy and healthy children, physical and mental health, a home, and $100,000 per year. Another person may feel wealthy having a job that challenges them positively, a group of close friends, physical and mental health, the ability to travel whenever and wherever they want, and $500,0000 per year. The point isn’t to judge someone else’s definition of wealth; it is to determine our definition of wealth and keep that in mind as we go about our lives.
Action steps:
- Identify the different things you need to feel wealthy.
- Define ideal wealth for each aspect identified.
- Identify the aspects of wealth where you’ve reached your ideal.
- Identify the aspects of wealth where you still have work.
