In the post, What would you do for free? we identified what we would do even if we didn’t need to get paid. So why not get paid for it? Our purpose is found in the web of what we enjoy, what we believe, what we’ve learned, and what we know. We need to go back to our list of what we would do for free and identify those items where our beliefs, lessons learned, and knowledge align with what we’d do for free. Circle them, highlight them, or give them stars. Whatever works for you. Once we’ve identified those items, we can craft a business and life around them. When we have more than one item on our list that lines up across the board, we’ll need to repeat this exercise for each item.
Action steps:
- Set a timer for 15 minutes.
- Get ready to write non-stop for the full 15 minutes.
- Take one item that aligns in all areas (you would do for free, beliefs, lessons learned, and knowledge).
- Answer the following questions:
- How does this align with what I believe?
- What knowledge do I have in this area?
- What lessons have I learned in this area?
- How can I serve others in this area?
- Revisit your journal 3-7 days later.
- Ask if you’re inspired to take action to help others in this area.
- Expand on the list of ways you can help others in this area.
- Identify any areas where you need more knowledge.
- Identify the first actions you need to take to help others.
